The number and type of mold samples taken on any particular job can vary based on each individual situation.
Air Sampling
Air samples are used to determine airborne mold spore counts outside to establish a baseline and inside to aid in determining if an elevated indoor airborne mold spore condition exists and what type (s) of mold are present.
Swab Sampling
Swab samples can be performed of visible mold growth or suspect mold growth. The results are compared with the results of the air samples and then used to verify that the visible growth is the same mold (s) that are airborne.
Swab samples are also used to test for settled mold spores on flooring and contents. Settled mold spores are also an issue that requires remediation. As a part of a mold post remediation clearance test, swab samples verify that affected surfaces have been properly cleaned.
Vacuum Sampling
Vacuum samples are normally used on surfaces such as carpet, fabric furniture, clothes, etc. Vacuum samples are used to collect settled mold spores and dust and is an additional method of testing. This method of sampling may be a part of initial testing or can be used as a part of mold clearance testing.
